A team of delegates from the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) led by its President, Ar. Mubasshar Hussain met the honorable Railway Minister, Mr. Nurul Islam Sujan MP at his office at Bangladesh Railway Bhaban on 4 February 2021. The key issue of the discussion was to conserve the Kamalapur Railway Station Complex. The other members of the delegation were Professor Dr. Abu Sayeed M Ahmed, Ar. Nurur Rahman Khan, Ar. Iqbal Habib, Ar. Farhana Sharmin Emu, General Secretary, IAB and Ar. Mohammad Sazzad Hossain, Secretary-Heritage and Culture, IAB.
After a long exchange of views, the Minister showed his interest in IAB’s proposal to continue the development while preserving the iconic establishment. The Minister also agreed to the proposal of presentation, knowledge-based alternatives motivated by the possibilities and rights in this regard by IAB. The delegates were requested to submit a joint alternative proposal soon under the leadership of IAB. The President of IAB thanked the Minister for this consent and hoped to present an acceptable alternative 'Primary Master Plan' as early as possible. The IAB president also committed to Bangladesh Railway to render necessary cooperation in the future as well.
