News: A meeting was held between the Representatives of IAB and Power Division, Ministry of Power Energy and Mineral Resources, GoB

A meeting was held at the Bangladesh Secretariat between the IAB representatives and senior executives of the Power Division, Ministry of Power Energy and Mineral Resources, Government of Banglagladesh on matters relating the built environment and energy scenario of Bangladesh. It was concured that while Bangladesh has made considearble progress on energy production and distribution, but the demand side factors where architecture and urban design could play an important role requires more attention in line with international practice and SDG. It was discussed that IAB vis a vis the architecture community can play a significant role in the areas such as low energy buildings, building energy performance audits, energy retrofits for old buildings, zero carbon policies for the built environment, alternative or hybrid cooling, urban charging station master plan for e-vehicle, contextualizing BEER and so on. Senior Secretary opined that in their activities and planning they have missed out on involving architects, and that in future architects will be involved in their endeavours, where mostly electrical and mechanical engineers have been contributing. IAB can provide policy support, state of the art technical expertise through policy formulations, technical review committees and training. Senior Secretary Mr Md Habibur Rahman and Addl Secy Dr Masum Ahmed Choudhury of Power Division and Prof Khandaker Shabbir Ahmed, President IAB, Prof Ali Naqi VP President , Ar Sujaul Islam Khan, Secretary Urbanisation and Environment and Ar Najmul Haq Bulbul, Secretary Profession were participated in the meeting.
