In a landmark event on October 30th, RAJUK (Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha), the apex regulatory authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB). The purpose of this historic agreement is to launch an Open Architectural Competition for the Design of the International Convention Center in Purbachal New Town.

The ceremony, graced by esteemed dignitaries, featured Mr. Anisur Rahman Miah, BPAA, Chairman (Secretary) of RAJUK as the Chief Guest, and IAB President Ar. Prof. Dr. Khandaker Shabbir Ahmed was the Special Guest and signatory for the MoU.

Mr. Anisur Rahman Miah, Chairman of RAJUK, inaugurated the program by sharing his vision of creating a modern, livable Dhaka with urban amenities and services for its citizens. He expressed his determination to establish a world-class Convention Center with international standard services by active participation by IAB members.

Mr. Md Ashraful Islam, Chief Town Planner Mr. Ashraf expressed his experiences of Open public spaces with such large urban complexes.

Ar. Prof. Dr. Khandaker Shabbir Ahmed thanked the Chairman for entrusting IAB with this project. He highlighted how similar initiatives in the past have resulted in outstanding architectural landmarks in the country. Prof. Shabbir also discussed the concept of using the infrastructure as a shelter during disaster periods along with creating urban open spaces with green infrastructure.

Ar. Md. Nazmul Haq Bulbul, Secretary, Profession, IAB, emphasized the significance of creating a comprehensive and detailed project brief to ensure the project's success.

Ar. Khan Md. Mahfuzul Huq, Vice-President, IAB, urged the RAJUK Chairman to consider developing small-scale community facilities and gathering spaces within the existing cityscape, in addition to the large community facility in the new town. He appreciated RAJUK's commitment to creating a livable and inclusive city where architects can play a vital role.

This momentous initiative is a significant step towards shaping the architectural landscape and creating a world-class Convention Center for Dhaka.
