The much-awaited award giving ceremony of “KSRM AWARDS FOR FUTURE ARCHITECTS for Best Undergraduate Thesis, in association with IAB” was held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Hotel Intercontinental Dhaka. This was the very first award ceremony of this newly introduced Student Award for Award cycle 2018-19. This award is a platform that brings all the three sectors of Architecture - Academia, Industry and Profession together under one roof.

Mr. S M Rezaul Karim MP, Honorable minister, Minister of Housing and Public Works and Mr. Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury MP, Honorable Deputy Minister, Ministry of Education of Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Shahriar Jahan, DMD, KSRM Steel Plant Ltd, Ar. Jalal Ahmed, President IAB were present on the occasion and awarded the crest, certificate and cheques to the winners. Along with the students, their Thesis teachers and respective Architecture Department too received recognition on their achievements.

KSRM as a representative of Building Industry has come forward to recognize the talents of graduating architecture students by getting associated with IAB in making this proposal from IAB a reality. This collaboration would not have been possible without their support. This will be an annual award program for graduating Architecture students henceforth and play a vital role hopefully in bridging the existing gap between academia, industry and profession gradually.

A total of 28 projects from 10 IAB accredited architecture schools of the country were submitted. These projects had already gone through an internal screening at their respective schools and then only found their way to IAB to be included in the national level of evaluation. 

A panel of eminent jurors Ar. Mohammad Ali Naqi [Vice-chancellor of Stamford University Bangladesh], Dr. Fuad H Mallick [Professor and Dean, School of Design, BRAC University], Dr. Farida Nilufar [Professor of Architecture at BUET], Ar. Saif Ul Haque [Aga Khan award 2019 winner and Director Research and Design program, Bengal Institute for Architecture, Landscape and Settlement] and Ar. Mustafa Ameen [Principle and Proprietor of Domus Architects] evaluated these projects. 

All the entries were then publicly displayed in a three-day long Exhibition from December 25 to December 27, 2019 at IAB Center which was open for all. The exhibition was widely visited by students, architects and people from different walks of life.
